Overview of our Carbon Coater


Our Carbon Coater for scanning electron microscopy specimen preparation. Nearly all nonconductive specimens examined in an SEM need to be coated with a thin film of conducting material. The common coatings are gold or carbon. Using the gold coating technique on SEM samples can mask or limit an x-ray spectrum of the sample, absorb the x-ray signal generated into the sample. When we need to obtain a x-ray spectrum of a non-conducting sample, a coating material very transparent to the x-ray must be utilized. In this case carbon is the most used material. Samples are coated by a thin film of carbon in a glass vacuum vessel.
